Theresa Ayoade, the CEO of Charterhouse has revealed that the 21st edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) will take place in August 2020.
The Awards night was slated to come off in April but had to be postponed following the directive of the president, by banning social gatherings and locking down the country. This is a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which struck the country in March 2020.
All activities came to a halt after the president announced the ban and restrictions, this affected so many businesses including major events scheduled for the year like the VGMA.
However, a decision has been reached after several weeks of deliberations and brainstorming with partners and stakeholders of the VGMA.
Theresa Ayoade said a decision has been made to hold the 21st edition of VGMA in August. She said this comes after the President announced some eased restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Speaking on Beyond the Lockdown on Joy News, Theresa said that, her team is re-strategizing to bring the best of entertainment to viewers in August regardless of the problems they may face.
“The challenges of putting together logistics and not being sure of expected revenue is a real issue. In normal times, we will have been able to sell up to 4,000 tickets in VGMA-related events, but it is not so now,”….she said
She explained that, as organizers, Charterhouse is looking into utilizing the digital space as well as new guidelines for events put forth by the Tourism Ministry.
She noted that the 2020 VGMA will have a live audience but with the needed social distancing and health protocols. This she explained that the live audience is the essence of the award show, hence, the need to follow through with the Tourism Ministry’s guidelines.
Madam Theresa noted that preparations are currently in place to ensure that Ghanaian artistes in other countries and audiences, who cannot come to the show, can join virtually.
“It may not be exactly as it used to be in the past but obviously, with what is happening now, it’s going to be a downscale version, I am confident that my team by August will put together a spectacular show” she noted
