The academy is Kotoko’s future- Frimpong Manso

Former defender of Asante Kotoko  Frimpong Manso has advised the club’s new Board of Directors to focus heavily on the club’s youth system, as he believes that it is the best way for the club to secure its future.

Frimpong Manso revealed this in an interview with Kumasi-based Light FM, insisting that the academy system will see the club prosper for generations.

“The academy is Kotoko’s future. If it is instituted, the team will be stable forever because that is how the trend of football is going, you can’t be buying players every season.”

“The set-up should even start from the Under 10 and rank through. They should stop thinking about winning Africa and build a solid foundation first and afterwards, it will come automatically,” …..he further stated.


Frimpong Manso is a former defender of the Porcupine Warriors playing for the side from 1991-1995, he has been capped 14 times for the Black Stars and has served as a coach for the national U-17 side the Black Satellites. The 61-year-old currently serves as Head Coach of Division One side NkoranzaWarriors.
