Felix Annan believes Kotoko deserve to play in CAF Champions League

Asante Kotoko’s captain Felix Annan in an interview with Takoradi based Skyy Power FM has stated his belief that the Kumasi-based club will be eligible to represent the country in the CAF Champions League should the league be cut short.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise to some, if the Porcupine Warriors were picked to represent the country, as back in 2018 in the aftermath of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas ‘Number 12’ expose, the club was allowed by the Normalization Committee to participate in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup, but this was due to the club’s victory at the 2017 MTN FA Cup.

According to Felix Annan, the Porcupine Warriors will activate the same article should the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League be cut short without a champion, as the club’s victory in the  NormalisationCommittee Tier 1 Cup back in 2019 should grant them access to play in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.

“Per what I know about CAF rules, we [Asante Kotoko] are still eligible to play in the champions league. The CAF rules state that if a season is not completed, or cancelled or suspended, because of a problem, the previous champions are to represent the country. So if the league is suspended or cancelled, I think we are still eligible to play in the Champions League” Annan said.
