Stephen Oduro was scared to approach me-Charles Allotey

Former Accra Hearts of Oak and Ghana International midfielder, Charles Allotey has stated that,his former under 17 national team mate Stephen Oduro never bypassed him with the ball on the field of play.

Charles Allotey who was a member of the ‘64 battalion’ that won the CAF Champions League and Super Cup in the year 2000, said in Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko clash,Stephen Oduro tried all possible means to dribble him and surge forward in so many occasion but that never happened.

He described him as a great midfielder who knew what he wanted on the field and fought for it during his days as a player.

Speaking to Andydotcom TV and Universsports which was monitored by Talksafrica.com Allotey explained that,he had a monitoring system to man mark the player in games of high intensity.

He also added that,he succeeded in instilling some sort of fear in Oduro when playing with him.

“I was not scared of any player on the field of play,Godwin Ablordey and Stephen Oduro were the players that were bent on trying to outplay me but i studied Stephen Oduro for some time.I made sure he never outplayed me.I decided to prevent him from dribbling me”He said

He however, bemoaned the lack of respect in the current national teams in the country.He noted that, during his era,the young lads acknowledged their predecessors in the team.

“there was respect for the old players during our days but its different these days,the young players of nowadays do not have respect for the old ones any longer”

Charles Allotey, who played for the national U-17 and the Black Stars is now the coach of Shalom FC, a third division side in Cape Coast, has the ambition of coaching the Phobians (Accra Hearts of Oak) in future.
