The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has moved the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to be held in Cameroon to 2022.
This follows the decision of the world football governing body to reorganize the global football calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
FIFA revealed that the tournament that was initially scheduled to take place from 9th January to 6th February 2021 will now take place in January 2022 with the exact dates to be determined at a later stage.
In a statement released by FIFA on 18th August 2020, it revealed the decision was taken “to include the new period of January 2022 for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the exact dates to be determined at a later stage,”
The changes are expected to give CAF the much needed time host the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) also in Cameroon.
