Basic Schools set to receive PPEs ahead of commencement of BECE

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) says that the government, through the Ministry of Education, has distributed some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the various regional education offices across the country for the onward distribution to basic schools ahead of the commencement of the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Speaking to Universnews monitored by Talksafrica.com COHBS, General Secretary, Mr. Alex Ackah, noted that the earlier delays that characterized the release of PPEs following the reopening of school for final year basic school students had been resolved and “even currently they are receiving another package of PPEs for the BECE time.

Mr. Alex Ackah explained that “it is up to the District Directors [of Education] and the Chief Executives to put heads together to convey them from the regional offices to their district offices” and “do the distribution to the various schools”.

Meanwhile, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the 2020 BECE timetable.

The “exit exam” for final year Junior High School students is expected to begin on Monday, September 14, 2020, and end on Friday, September 18, 2020.

BECE is used as a yardstick by the Ghana Education Service to select qualified candidates for Senior High Schools and Technical  Vocational Institutes across the country.
