National Food Buffer Stock Company destroyed by the NPP-Edem Agbana

Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress( NDC), Eric Edem Agbana, is urging the government to ensure that there is a readily market to enable farmers expand and sell their produce.

Speaking on TV3‘s New Day Friday, September 4,2020 monitored by Talksafrica.com, he indicated that, farmers within the country do not have available market to sell their produce and get some funds out of it.

The maverick politician revealed that, the NDC government of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills made the National Food Buffer Stock Company formidable to serve as the available market for the produce but that has not been the case for the Akufo Addo led administration.

 “The idea of partnering with them was to buy food from farmers where there is abundance of harvest and they were to buy and preserve food which will affect food prices all year round.”He said

Government, in line with its mandate to accelerate the modernisation of Agriculture and to increase the productivity of the Ghanaian farmer introduced a number of interventions to achieve it mandate on Agriculture.

The National Food Buffer Stock was introduced to ensure farmers sell their produce without it going waste.Some mandate were to guarantee an assured income to farmers by providing a minimum guaranteed price and ready market,to mop up excess produce from all farmers in order to reduce post harvest losses resulting from spoilage due to poor storage, thereby protecting farm incomes,to purchase, sell, preserve and distribute food stuffs etc.
