Officials of Ghana’s Premier University, The University of Ghana have pleaded with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to give them three years to reimburse the GH¢4 million tax on rent allowance.
The officials of the University appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee yesterday September 4, 2020 to give their financial report.
According to the 2017 Auditor General’s report, tax on rent allowance was not deducted and paid in contravention of the tax laws university but the officials of the University pleaded for more time to pay the stipulated amounts.
The University revealed they have paid some portion of the amount and are looking forward to paying the rest later.
They added that, they are in talks with the Ghana Revenue Authority to resolve the issue through negotiating for a payment plan.
“We are in talks with GRA to resolve the issue and indeed we have made some payment and we need to negotiate with GRA to have a payment plan and by the next three years we should be able to have it fully paid,” they said
Other Universities were present to give their financial report to the Public Account Committee.
