The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will abolish the mandatory national service and licensure examination for training college teachers when given the mandate after the December 7 general elections.

The vice presidential candidate of the party, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang stated that, the move is to achieve a quality educational system in the country.

She made these assertion at the launch of the NDC 2020 Manifesto at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, on Monday September 7, 2020.

“Quality education also depends on having good teachers, well-trained teachers, and having enough of them. So we will abolish the mandatory national service and teacher licensure examination for graduate teachers and we will restore the automatic employment of newly trained teachers to improve the teacher-student ratio across the country while we consider those who have study via distance,” she said.

Prof. Opoku agyemang further stated that NDC will institute a free primary health care system in the perspective to bridge the gap between high and low-income workers.

“We in the NDC believe that quality; affordable treatment should not be determined by where you live or how much money you earn. These barriers to cost and distance continue to exclude millions of Ghanaians from the care that they need causing them to delay seeking care or to forgo it altogether. This is why the next NDC government is going to institute the free primary health care,” she added.
