Sports Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama led National Democratic Congress administration,Hon.Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has stated that, the Big Push agenda will serve as a great support to the sports fund.
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama earlier announced a $10 billion accelerated infrastructural plan termed the Big Push.
He further revealed that when elected in December, the Big Push agenda will provide jobs and improve infrastructure in the country.
“We are looking at what I call the Big Push, injecting some $10 billion to dualize our roads, complete the remainder of the 200 Community Day Senior High Schools, finish all the hospital projects that have been left abandoned, and construct bridges to open up the country”
In a media engagement, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye stated that challenges which were faced in the quest to commence some sport projects will be a thing of the past once the Big Push agenda is implemented.
He added that the sports fund, which is aimed at providing financial support for sport associations, will make resources available from the payment of allowances and furnish sports men and women with special welfare packages.
“It was always difficult for us to be able to embark upon certain things that we envisage under the sports fund but this time with the big push, a lot of resources will be available for us to be able to support the institutionalization of the sports fund and so be able to cater for it. The sports fund is principally aimed at providing resources and making funds available for all the sporting associations apart from football to be able to embark upon their programs and activities for a year and also make resources available from the payment of allowances and support and welfare packages for sports men and women”
