According to reports, English Football League (EFL) Championship side, Nottingham Forest, are interested in signing out-of-favour Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu.
Atsu is apparently key for new Forest boss Chris Hughton who is looking to the tricky Ghanaian winger to help overturn the Reds’ winless start to the Championship.
The Ghanaian international has fallen from the pecking order at Newcastle with the Magpies’ manager Steve Bruce stating that the winger should consider a move away from St. James Park.
“I like Christian – the same goes for [Yoshinori] Muto – trains every day, works tirelessly, [and is] a good professional,” Bruce told the BBC Newcastle
“But in a situation where, are they going to play enough? There has to come a time when they go and play football.”
“Saivet, Atsu, Muto, [Achraf] Lazaar, [Rolando] Aarons – they need to find a home and try to progress their careers again.” He concluded
Hughton who is of Ghanaian descent has been brought in by Forest to replace Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi who led the Reds to 4 straight defeats in the Championship.
The Reds’ new boss is no stranger to the Championship having masterminded 3 promotions to the English Premier League (EPL) which included Atsu’s Newcastle United during the 2009/2010 season.
Atsu started in 6 out of 19 Premier League appearances during the 2019/2020 season assisting 3 goals. He, however, failed to find the back of the net.
