Gov’t has improved conditions of service for teachers – NPP

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that it has improved the conditions of service for teachers over the last four years since it took over power from the National Democratic congress (NDC).

Speaking at a conference in Accra, the Communications Director of the party, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah said that their government has introduced the licensure examinations which will improve the professional development of teachers and that teachers who also were promoted saw an increase in their salaries

He indicated that these educational reforms by government have prioritized teachers at all levels in the country.

“Now we are doing an aptitude test, the substantive progress in creating a system that is efficient to the aptitude test is to make sure that teachers are fairly treated when it comes to promotions, also when we promoted teachers, you will see a reflection of the adjusted salaries within one month of being promoted and that is a major for teachers,“ he said.

He also stated that “over 91 percent of the legacy arrears of teachers have been paid, teachers who were denied years of hard work have now been paid.“

According to him, a lot is being done to help teachers and that they are in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, Fare Wages and Salary Commission, among other unions to make life better for teachers.

These conditions he said cover “vehicle maintenance allowance, kilometric allowance, night allowance, allowance for teachers in deprived areas, retention allowance, protective clothing allowance, advance to purchase means of transport, special allowance transfer grant and permanent posting allowance.”
