C/R: Police officer murdered at a check point

A Police officer on duty at Gomoa Manso in the Central Region has died after a truck  run over him at the police check point on the Winneba-Cape Coast Highway.

The 39-year-old named Sergeant Hifzullah Salifu was stationed at the Apam District Police Command.

According to the Regional Police, the suspect driver Francis Akese, 50 was in charge of a Samsung Yamouzine Truck vehicle, with the registration number CR 319-11 from Mankessim towards Apam with two persons on board and upon reaching a section of the road near Greenfield Police Snap Check Point refused to stop when signaled and knocked down the officer.

The Police officer was rushed to the Apam Catholic Hospital immediately after the incident but died while receiving treatment.

Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police DSP Irene Oppong told the media that, the suspect driver has been detained to aid in the investigation.

She said the body of the officer has been moved from Gomoa Apam Catholic Hospital to the Police Hospital morgue.
