President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt E. S. Okraku has reaffirmed his belief in C.K Akonnor to succeed as coach of the National senior male soccer team.
The Ghana Football Association president is of the great conviction that, the former Obuasi goldfields player will end Ghana’s over 30-year AFCON trophy drought.
He stated that C.K Akonnor, despite a shaky start as Black Stars coach, will soon establish his own style of play and help restore the love of Ghanaians for the national team.
“We are here to fix the fundamentals and when we get it right, we will be very competitive. Once we are competitive, soon the big trophies will start to land via the Kotoka International Airport again. We are very positive, we believe that given the support the entire country has offered us, we will be able to bring that target of envy one more time. Blackstars is on the heart of everybody and you see clearly from C.K Akonnor’s first two call ups that he is a deep thinker. He is bringing in quality and is just a matter of time, this thing will start to gel and we will very competitive and interesting again,” he said in a media engagement.
C.K Akonnor added that;
‘It’s been a long time since Blackstars played interesting and entertaining football and the same will be replicated at the U20 level, U17, boys and girls across all our national brands, especially with the national teams. So we are very positive about how the future looks like and we can’t wait to get it started.’
Akonnor will lead the Black-stars in the upcoming 2022 African Cup of Nations Qualifying doubleheader against Sudan in November.
