Dec Elections: We’re ready to appear before parliament – EC

The Electoral Commission(EC) has proposed Saturday, November, 07 2020, for an appearance in parliament following the House’s invitation to present its Plans for a peaceful and successful conduct of Election 2020.

The Election Management Body(EMB) dismissed reports that it snubbed the House on Thursday.

The Commission explained it received the invitation from the august House late on Wednesday and rejected claims that it deliberately refused to honour the invitation by the law-making body.

In a statement from the commission they said“The Commission is greatly surprised by this turn of events as notice of the said meeting was sent after office hours on Wednesday the 4th of November 2020. At the time some Commission members were out of Accra and this was communicated to the Leadership of Parliament. It is also important to note that the Chairperson of the Commission has never turned down an invitation of the August House. The Commission and its Leadership view Parliament as an important democratic institution and have always fully cooperated with Honorable Members.”
