Three Officers have been arrested by Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly masterminding a robbery incident at Baraka Gas Company in Machakos county in Kenya.
The 3 SSU detectives had gone to arrest suspects at Baraka Gas Company in Machakos for illegally refilling gas cylinders during a curfew.
They later turned rogue, and confiscated phones belonging to employees and stole KSh 370,000 which they sent to their accounts.
The incident which took place on Friday, July 31, 2020 led to the arrest of the officers on Monday, August 3, 2020.
According to the DCI, the three detectives had conducted a night raid at the firm, after they received a tip off that an illegal refilling of gas was taking place at the firm.
“Having been tipped of the said company illegally refilling cylinders from various gas companies behind locked doors after curfew hours.
“The team of three constables; William Mutua, Henry Maitai and Jonathan Sankale organized and executed a raid on the facility”, the DCI said.
He said the trio intercepted the company’s surveillance car, which they used to gain access to the premises.
The DCI added that after entering the company’s compound, the officers confiscated phones from all employees and wired KSh 370, 000 into their personal accounts via M-Pesa.
The DCI explained that the money the trio stole was channeled to a till number, and two safaricom lines which were later traced back to the officers.
The officers have been disarmed and will be arraigned after completion of investigations.
