A 10-seater WC toilet facility commissioned in Ho

The Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Andrews Barnes has commissioned a ten-seater WC toilet facility to the cured lepers village at Godokpe in Ho.

The facility, aimed at reducing issues related to poor sanitation and to also cater to the mental wellbeing of the people was funded by the Australian Government and Taxpayers.

The project estimated at Ghc 90, 789.28, was commissioned to mark the end of his four-year term as the high commissioner to Ghana.

At the commissioning ceremony, H.E. Andrews Barnes said the High Commission received an application last year for the construction of a toilet block through the Mental Health and Wellbeing Foundation (MHWF) for the people of the Cured Lepers village.

He said that he was pleased to accept the application since the MHWF was a great partner in developmental projects, such as school projects, adding that, the project would ensure that the unsanitary conditions in the community are addressed.

“I am coming towards the end of my four-year term as high commissioner in Ghana. We hope that by putting up the structure in this community, the people especially the cured lepers and the aged will have improved mental health and reduction of social health and stigma”….he said.

He said he was of the hope that the relationship between Ghana and Australia goes a long way to bring more exciting humanitarian projects to the people of the Volta Region and beyond.

He advised the beneficiaries of the project to strictly put in measures of maintenance, in order to keep the facility running.

Mental Health and Well-being Foundation (MHWF).

The Mental Health and Well-Being Foundation is registered by the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission based in Australia and Ghana.

The foundation has been doing a lot of advocacy work since 2014, and its vision is to ensure that mental illness will be understood and accepted with available resources to offer early interventions, treatment and support to persons with mental illness and also end the long-existing stigma.
