AHSAG to establish Health Administration and Management Institute

The President of the Association of Health Service Administrators of Ghana (AHSAG), Fred Effah Yeboah has announced that the Association has taken steps to establish an Institute of Health Administration and Management (IHAM) for the study and practice of Health Administration in Ghana.

He said relevant documents have been submitted to the Registrar General for registration and explained that the purpose is to bridge the gap between academia and the world of practice to deliver world class training and corporate governance experience in health care delivery.

Mr. Effah made the call at the 43rd Annual Conference of AHSAG in Ho, where he delivered his address.

This conference which was on the theme “Effective Contract Administration, the role of the Health Service Administrator”, was to receive recommendations from stakeholders, in order to deepen good contract management.

He commended government and the Ministry of Health for the steps taken clear the backlog of unemployed health providers adding that the decision to complete health facilities left midway as part of the sector expansion would transform the sector.

He added that the introduction of e-health, e-procurement and e-payments would improve efficiency and enhance modern healthcare delivery.

“As administrators, we are optimistic that if this move is carried out, it will improve healthcare delivery in the catchment locations of those facilities”, he said.

He bemoaned the non-issuance of financial clearance for the recruitment of trained Health Service Providers for almost five years could posed a serious threat to the profession and therefore stressed the need to institute an attractive ritual incentive to ensure redistribution of health professionals accross the country.

In his remark, the Director, Health Administration and Service Support Division, Mr. Ebo Hammond said financial clearance have been secured for 132 administrators. He said 96 have been formally recruited and posted into the various hospitals in the service.
