Akkufo-Addo extends duration of mosque, church services to 2 hours


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the duration of religious activities for churches and mosques in the country from an hour to two hours.

In his 14th address to the nation on the state of the Covid-19 and what measures are put in place he indicated that, he has engaged in broader consultation with religious authorities in the country.

According to the President,there is the need to extend the duration of service and prayers to two hours.

“After further extensive consultation, government has taken the decision to embark upon the implementation of phase two of the easing of restrictions in the following sectors of our national lives”

“Our churches and mosques have been opened for prayers and services for the past seven weeks adhering to 25 percent capacity”

“I have sorely missed going to Church, as I am sure many others have. I am, therefore, very happy to announce that, in consultation with our Church leaders, from 1st August, 2020, the restrictions on the number of congregants worshipping at a time in Church will be lifted, with the length of worship extended from one (1) to two (2) hours per service”. He said.

The President added thag, his decision was based on the high level of compliance with the safety protocols by the religious bodies.
