Asamoah Gyan set to hold tennis tourney


Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, in partnership with MANCWA Commodities are organizing a tennis tourney to be held at the Army Officers’ Mess Tennis Club from 26th to 29th August 2020.

The competition which is dubbed the ‘Baby Jet & MANCWA Commodities Top 16 Invitational Tourney’ is set to feature some of the country’s biggest names in the sport including Johnson Acquah, Benjamin Fumi and Emmanuel Nyan Plange among others.


In an interview with ClassFM Gyan’s manager, Samuel Anim Addo spoke about the upcoming tournament saying “As part of our strategy to always make an impact at wherever we venture that’s the reason why we decided to get this tournament organised,”

Gyan whose interest in playing tennis piqued just months ago has shown incredible talent and skill going as far as defeating 3-time Tema Tennis Singles Open champion, Ismaila Nii Lante Lamptey popularly known as Baboo.


His first trial with the sport came in 2006 when some folks were playing in camp and he decided to give it a shot. He would however in the towel as his very first strike went completely outside the court. Gyan would make a comeback about a year ago determined to learn and play the sport which he has always loved to watch on TV.
