- Real Madrid could move to the top of La Liga if they defeat Espanyol on Sunday 28th June 2020 at the RCDE Stadium following the Blaugrana’s 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo today 27thJune 2020.
Suarez opened the scoring in the 20th minute courtesy of a wonderful Lionel Messi assist before Fyodor Smolov equalised early in the second half. Suarez then doubled his and Barcelona’s tally in the 67th minute.
However, Iago Aspas had the final say when his free-kick found a way past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
After the game, Luis Suarez admitted to LaLiga TV how vital the game was to the team, “It was a vital match to fight for the title. We had a good first half, creating chances, but in the second half, it was different, Celta wanting to be more aggressive. The result leaves a bitter taste, one of sadness and frustration because we have lost two points.”
All is not lost, for the Catalonian side as Real Madrid still have to go to Athletic Club before the end of the season, but it’s difficult at this point to see Barca winning all of their remaining games, not least because a resurgent Atletico Madrid will visit Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
