Amidst this pandemic, attention has been shifted from creating awareness on some serious illness that is gradually wiping the human race. It is worth it, to keep the public updated on information relating to this pandemic in the pursuit of it mitigation or complete eradication in order to stabilize the global economic glitch which has struck individuals, cooperate entities and the world at large in an abysmal state.
In this session of health is wealth, we will look at some dreadful disease patterns that has lost public recognition and it has to be re-emphasized in order to ensure totality of health.
The human body is genetically programmed, it gives you back what you give it. Each and every organ or body part is relatively important, but there are some that are undoubtedly trademarked as vital organs. This includes the brain, heart, kidney, liver and lungs. Taking this organs into consideration will unleash a lot of diseases that arise from these organs which its development comes as a result of various predisposing factors. This session will highlight some medical conditions from the already stated vital organs and some diseases from other related organs.
CEREBROVASCULAR ACCIDENT (STROKE)
Stroke is one of the non-communicable disease that has since been the world concern in the perspective of health. This is a disease that affects the blood vessels (arteries) which carries oxygenated blood and other required nutrients to the brain.
When the carotid and cerebral arteries is either blocked by a clot or the vessel ruptures (bursts), it impedes blood flowing to the brain, this blood contains oxygen and nutrients meant to nourish the brain to perform adequately.
The obstruction of blood flow to the brain inhibits a portion from getting enough blood, this gradually leads to brain cell death, hence stroke occurs.
The part of the brain the gets affected will indicate the signs the person will exhibit. The brain has 3 main part (the cerebellum, cerebrum and the brainstem), it also has four lobes (frontal lobe (for cognition function and memory), parietal lobe(processes information about taste, movement and taste), occipital lobe(responsible for vision) and temporal lobe(processes memories, integrating them into sensation of taste, sound, sight and touch).
The occurrence of stroke can be ischemic (this is when blood clot cease blood from flowing to the brain or hemorrhagic (this occurs when blood vessels in the brain ruptures or breaks, hence spilling blood into surrounding tissues).
Paralysis as a result of stroke is either hemiplegia/ hemiparesis (affects one side of the brain, this reflects on the opposite sides of the body. That is; if the left brain is affected, the right part pf the body will be paralyzed or dead and vice versa or paraplegia (paralysis that affects all or part of the torso- legs and pelvic organs).
MENINGITIS AND ENCEPHALITIS
Meningitis is an inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the brain and the spinal cord. It is mostly caused by an infection. Encephalitis is the inflammation of the brain as a whole. Causes of meningitis and encephalitis include viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.
The brain controls the entire human activities, hence anything that attacks the brain or its surrounding tissues can cause a prompt death. Any foreign body that is introduced to the body will initiate an inflammatory response which is the body’s natural way of combating that foreign body.
High blood pressure is a very common condition in which the lasting force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough and will certainly cause health problem such as heart diseases. In simple terms hypertension occurs when the force the heart uses to pump blood to systemic circulation is too high than normal.
The normal blood pressure should be 120/80–systolic and dystolic respectively. High blood pressure is considered to be 140/90 or higher which occurs from various predisposing factors which ranges from lifestyle to genetic factors.
Some common risk factors includes; excess salt (where there is sodium there is water), excess body weight, smoking and alcohol. One major complication of hypertension is stroke. Commonly hemorrhagic stroke.
