The Director of Communication at the Presidency Eugene Arhin has reacted to the withdrawal of the Candidature of the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah after pressure group Occupy Ghana, called out for his resignation for breaching COVID-19 safety protocol.
Eugene Arhin has stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo cannot affect the withdrawal of Carlos Ahenkorah as a Tema West parliamentary candidate.
The Director of Communication’s comments is in response to several calls to the President to withdraw Carlos Ahenkorah as the ruling New Patriotic Pary’s candidate after he flouted Covid-19 safety protocols.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Eugene Arhin stated that the decision to withdraw Carlos Ahenkorah lies solely in the hands of the NPP.
According to him, “If the party believes that he should stay on, definitely, why not, he’ll stay on”
Although he indicated he was certain he placed no one at risk because he did not touch anyone, his action has received a lot of backlash from the public domain.
As a result, Carlos Ahenkora on Friday tendered in his resignation as the Deputy Trades Minister.
“If at the end of the day he believes he has to put down his candidature for the party in the Tema West Constituency, that I believe is up to him.
“The President has no view on this. At the end of the day, that decision rests solely with the former Deputy Minister himself and also the party,” he further stressed.
