Undefeated American boxer Ryan Garcia [20-0, 17 KOs] has agreed to an interim title fight against English boxer Luke Campbell [20-3, 16 KOs] instead of a final eliminator for the WBO lightweight title against Ghanaian Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe [31-1, 15 KOs].
Garcia’s name has recently been attached to the two fights ordered by sanctioning bodies World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC) with the WBC ordering Garcia to face Campbell, after Javier Fortuna [35-2-1, 24 KOs] declined to fight the 32-year-old British boxer and instead signed on to face Jorge Linares [47-5, 29 KOs] on August 28.
The WBO, also ordered the American to face Tagoe in a final eliminator for their lightweight title, currently held by Vasiliy Lomachenko [14-1, 10 KOs]. This fight although would be without hardware on the line it would have given the victor a mandatory shot at the winner of Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez fight.
Although Tagoe is out of his fight against Ryan Garcia, boxing fans who are starving for actual good, intriguing fights right now, would be sure to look forward to the Garcia v Campbell fight.
