The Ghana Chess Association (GCA) have today 16th August 2020 revealed their new look Technical Committee that will be led by former GCA Vice-President, Candidate Master (CM) Edward Thompson.
The committee was elected on 7th August 2020 with an impressive line-up which includes former GCA Treasurer and FIDE Arbiter (FA) Ambrose Amexo (who will serve as the committee’s secretary), 2019 National Chess Champion FIDE Master (FM) John Hasford, FA John Solarays, Prof. Richard Adanu and Dr. Kwabena Adu-Poku.
Speaking exclusively to PMChess about the committee, GCA President, Philip Ameku said “With the calibre of people on the team it tells you that they are going to work as a team and definitely there will be no stone left unturned”
Philip also spoke about the committee’s head praising the multiple chess Olympian “He has experience when it comes to organising tournaments, aside that he is an accomplished chess coach and also he is a former Vice-President of the GCA so definitely he brings on board quite a good amount of experience”
The new Chairman of the GCA Technical Committee, CM Edward Thompson, also spoke to PMChess revealing what he believes should be the first issue targeted by the committee
“I believe the first thing that we should do as the technical committee is to put in place the regulations to make sure that we have quality trainers teaching our kids how to play chess”
“So we have to put in place guidelines. If possible we have to put in place a curriculum to teach us what to do, so that not anybody can just get up and say I am a trainer, no they have to be licensed.” He further stated
The committee’s main task will be to come up with policies and guidelines regarding arbitration, anti-cheating, local titles and licenses, national team selection, among others.
