“Ghana WASSCE” to be organized for final year SHS students – Education Minister

Final year students of Senior high schools are to reopen and report to school on June 22 following the presidents directive on May 31st.

The students are expected to use six weeks for studies after which they will write their exit exams. The Minister for Education, Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has announced that the examinations will traverse across five weeks after the tutoring period.

“They will be there for academic work and revision for six weeks do their West Africa Examination Council, the Ghana exams that we understand will take five weeks,”…Dr. Opoku-Prempeh noted.

He stated that the Ghana chapter of the West Africa Examination Council has been consulted to set the papers specifically for students in the country since other countries in the sub-region are tackling the pandemic and its effects uniquely.

Matthew Opoku-Prempeh also directed that there should be no assemblies, religious activities or any mass gatherings when schools re-open on 22 June.

However, Visitors will also not be allowed in the schools, to prevent the chances of the virus spreading among the students.

Dr. Opoku-Prempeh stated that, Lessons will start at 9am and are expected to end at 1pm each day.

Background

The president on Sunday 31st May 2020 announced that schools will reopen from 15th June for only final year students to go back and write their exit exams.  The Education Minister’s update comes on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s easing of restrictions on educational institutions across the country on Sunday.
