International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President, Andrew Parsons, in an interview with BBC Sports, revealed that the IPC is currently developing strategies and plans with governments, commercial partners and the Tokyo Organising Committee to ensure that no country misses the rescheduled Tokyo Paralympics for financial reasons.

“We want to avoid a situation where a nation cannot compete because of finances,” Parsons told BBC Sport.

Parsons also revealed that the committee are in constant communications with the various National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) saying “We are developing strategies and plans with governments, commercial partners and the Tokyo Organising Committee and are constantly in contact with the various National Paralympic Committees (NPCs).”

Speaking to ClassFM, General Secretary of Ghana’s NPC, Peter Adjei has responded to Parsons’ comments revealing that the NPC has yet to receive official communication from the IPC saying “The NPC has not received an official communication to that effect. However, we are also aware that the IPC always strives to make sure that all NPCs and para-athletes and officials will get some kind of support if the need arises.”

“It is actually sad that the IPC should be seeking for the stability of a smaller NPC like Ghana which is actually the duty of the government so to speak. Notwithstanding we are hopeful that whatever it is Ghana will definitely make appearance at the Paralympic Games.”

The Paralympic Games were supposed to take place this week in Tokyo, Japan but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been rescheduled to 24th August 2021.
