At a mid year budget review today, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, announced that government would extend free water for the next weeks.
The minister, who announced this on the floor of Parliament, said it takes a caring government of the people to offer cost-free water to all across the country.
He said “It takes a caring government of people to offer cost-free water to all across the country, representing all domestic and commercial customers in Ghana for three months”.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta noted that aside from the extension of the free water to Ghanaians, government will see to the free access to electricity subsidy package, to mitigate the impact of Coronavirus.
He mentioned that government will reduce electricity prices by half for another three months.
He added that for large and small businesses, it will subsidise electricity consumption by 50 per cent to 4,086,286 households and 686,522 businesses at a cost of ¢1.02 billion in three months.
“We will extend the coverage for lifeline customers for another three months”, he said.
President Akufo Addo announced in April a free water package and electricity subsidy for all Ghanaians to cushion the dire impacts of the Covid-19 on citizen livelihood.
