Kaiser Ghana is set to hold a friendly tennis event dubbed the “Kaiser Tennis Showdown” from 10th to 13th September 2020 at the Open Court Tennis Center in Sakumono.
Kaiser is a German kitchen appliance brand which started its operations back in 1995 in Berlin, Germany is one of the biggest kitchen appliances companies in Europe and we spoke to Managing Director (MD) of Kaiser West Africa Limited, Nikita Loginov, to find out how the came to be present in Ghana.
“We opened the company in December 2014, so the reason why we came to Ghana is because we had an opportunity with my ex-business partner to come and invest here. It was a very and very interesting market, developing economy with a lot of opportunities and we got the exclusivity from the German side, Kaiser in Berlin and we ultimately started business here”
“We [Kaiser Ghana] have a lot of ranges that is what we are known for, we don’t just have 3 products we have 200 different products. We have many different styles, designs, colours, ranges so we are known for product depth and that is ultimately our forte” He further stated
Nikita also spoke about how the brand came to be organising the Kaiser Tennis Showdown “I have always been an avid player and supporter of tennis ever since I was a kid. My parents got me very early into the game…it was actually always my dream to become a professional tennis player but I never made it, business was my fate.”
“So when I came to Ghana I saw that you could play with the top players and that is what really motivated me and ultimately that is what gave me the inspiration to create the tournament,” Nikita concluded
The friendly event is set to feature the Kaiser West Africa Limited MD as well as some of Ghana’s best including former African Games gold medalist Benjamin Fumi, former captain of the Golden Rackets, Japheth Bagerbaseh, winner of the Baby-Jet & Mancwa tourney, Johnson Acquah, Agaasi Tormegah, Pascal Ziyab, Reginald Okantey and Felix Hammond. We spoke to Tournament Director, Geoffrey Agbalekpor, to find out how the players were chosen for the event.
“We have 8 players and most of them are guys that he [Nikita Loginov] plays with every day, so these are guys he usually plays with and there are few national players who are out there and because of this COVID[-19] they are idle because most of them earn money through competition and right now there is no competition, so although this one is not a tournament; it’s a kind of training matches for them. So this is how we selected the players.”
The Kaiser Tennis Showdown is not a competitive tournament but a friendly tennis event, however, Geoffrey revealed that once the players take the court we should expect some intense action “If you ever play tennis before you know that immediately you start hitting the ball, that inner drive, that inner spirit of fighting for each point will come naturally.”
The maiden edition of the Kaiser Tennis Showdown is to take place from 10th to 13th September 2020 at the Open Court Tennis Center in Sakumono.
Speaking about the future MD of Kaiser West Africa Limited, Nikita Loginov, revealed he has plans to hold a more competitive tournament early next year “I would like to focus on tennis since that is where my heart is, that is where my interest is and my knowledge. So, obviously I would like to do more tennis tournaments, I would like to create more winners in Ghana for tennis.”
“I think from January we will hopefully do another tournament, this year there is probably not enough time for us to do but next year January – February we will do a bigger tournament, a more serious tournament, this [Kaiser Tennis Showdown] is just a showdown. We will do a proper tournament next year.”
