Logistics needed to revamp COVID-19 testing capacity

The Head of the Virology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Professor William Ampofo, has said the team has taken delivery of logistics to revamp the COVID-19 testing capacity.

He said that between 100,000 and 300,000 samples of tests would be conducted through a period of three months.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra yesterday, Prof. Ampofo said the logistics supplies included masks, swabs, test kits tubes, PCR machines, autoclave bags and gloves.

He said that will strengthen the country’s direct detection of virus’ testing capacity.

“Last week I announced that we expected the deliveries and today I am gald to mention we have enough supplies and distributed to all 10 existing sites to enhance testing”, Prof. Ampofo said.

Adding that, an emergency procurement of additional logistics through the Ghana Health Service, supported by the COVID-19 trust fund arrived last week.

He therefore noted that, they were critical for Noguchi because that will help in clearing the backlog.
