Madina Republicans handed one-year ban

The Player Status Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned Ghana Division Two side Madina Republicans from registering new players for a period of One (1) year.

Any registration done by the club or pending registrations of the club shall be nullified.

This decision was taken after the club was found to have registered a player, Christian Opoku Oduro with the date of birth as 2nd October 2003 for 2017/2018 football season on 16th February 2018.

Later, on the 3rd August 2020, Madina Republicans registered the same player with the name Aidan Nana Poku.

Despite their apology and admission before the committee, there was an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the dishonesty.

Madina Republican FC on 21st October 2020 held a justify your inclusion session to select new players ahead of 2020/2021 season, but the ban could see some if not all of the club’s signings nullified.

Football in the country had been suspended since the middle of March as part of government’s measures to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) cancelling the 2019/2020 Ghana season on 30th June 2020 following an over 5 hours long Executive Council meeting.
