Ghana Premier League (GPL) side Medeama Sporting Club have signed a sponsorship deal with gold mining firm Gold Fields Ghana worth $300,000.
Goldfields Ghana has been a major partner for the Tarkwa-based side sponsoring the club for the past 8 years, but following the truncation of football in the country, the company put the deal on hold with Executive Vice President and head of Goldfields West Africa unit, Alfred Baku, revealing the reason back in March.
“Medeama Sporting Club is a club that we’ve been sponsoring and we went quiet a bit, and it’s not because of anything, but because the Ghana Premiership also went quiet.”
The deal was officially signed on Tuesday 13th October 2020 with Alfred Baku, alluding to the club’s impressive performances in recent time as the reason they renewed the deal “Medeama, in the last two seasons have been impressive.”
“The club’s achievement, before the suspension of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League was very commendable, beating giants Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak at the Akoon Park,” he said.
“We will continue to support the club because we believe that our host community in Tarkwa can develop through the game of football,” he concluded.
Goldfields Ghana are also currently upgrading Medeama’s home ground, the Tarkwa T&A Park, at an estimated cost of $10 million.
