Mentors Chess Academy hold Junior Online Chess Blitz Tournament

Popular chess organisation, Mentors Chess Academy earlier today 22nd August 2020 held an online blitz tournament for kids under the age of 18.

The competition which was free to anyone under the age of 18 saw 42 kids battle it out for a Top 5 position in the various age categories (U-10, U-14 & U-18) to claim the certificates and prizes that came with achieving the feat.

In an interview with Talks Africa, Director of Mentors Chess Academy, David Acheampong spoke more about the tournament saying,

“We were always doing quarterly tournaments over the board but when this [COVID-19] started we realised there was a need to keep our students still interested and not let them get rusty so we decided to organise online tournaments,”

“This time it had to be blitz because we to let people say on the internet for a long time or risk people getting tempted to get support or help whilst playing is also there so we don’t have to make it a long game.” He further added

The winners for the various age categories are listed below;

U-10 Standings
U-14 Standings
