In an interview with Angel FM, former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold SC defender, Eric Donkor, has claimed that the Miners have better sports infrastructure when compared to their local rivals.
“In terms of infrastructure, I will say Ashgold is ahead of Kotoko. Ashgold had their own camping base, pitch and so many other things but in terms of pedigree, Kotoko is ahead of Ashgold.”
The 28-year-old, however, revealed that he was paid much better at the Kumasi-based club saying “My salary at Kotoko was way higher than that of AshGold. Ghana football is really lacking behind in terms of the salary players receive. Hopefully, even if the leaders cannot arrive at a minimum wage for us, they should try for the next generation”, he added.
Donkor who is currently a free agent spent 7 years with the Porcupine Warriors before joining the Miners back in 2018 on a free. The defender made 17 appearances for the Miners during the 2019/2020 season scoring a single goal.
Recent reports had linked the former Miners’ left-back to a move to Hearts of Oak but the Rainbow club have come out to deny the claims with the club’s Communications Director, Opare Addo, telling Luv FM Sports “We have William Dankyi, Rady Ovouka and Robert Addo who doubles as an excellent centre back in that position. Why should we go in for another left-back when we have sold none?”
“He [Eric Donkor] is an excellent player; no doubts about that. He has contributed his quota so well to Ghana football and wherever he has gone and he is my personal friend,”
“The reality is that, if it is not the case why do we want to force a story on the supporters which some of them go ahead and believe, creating pressure on management that you need to do certain things? This does not help anybody,” He further stated
