Minister calls on MDCEs to be well equipped to function effectively

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has directed Municipal and District Chief Executives to function effectively to support the Assembly in the performance of its mandate.

He said that would ensure that various Assembly sub-structures are properly constituted.

The Minister gave the directive during a Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) meeting in Wa.

He said that all the structures and the substructures like the town and area councils and Unit committees ought not only to be put in place but also well-equipped and properly resourced to function.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih charged the assemblies to ensure that the sub-structures were established as revealed by the Regional Coordinating Council’s monitoring exercise.

“I want to remind the district authorities that the sub-structures have very significant roles to play so far, as revenue and social mobilization drives are necessary to enhance the functions of the Assembly”, he said.

He added that all substructures played a key role in ensuring a complete and effective decentralized system.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih noted that Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) fail to hold statutory and mandatory meetings such as the Budget and Audit Committee meetings, noting that, “it was a failure on the part of management to provide resources to organise such meetings”.

The Upper West Regional Minister called on the management of the Assemblies to ensure that meetings are held regularly and accordingly.
