Historically, politics, internal fighting as a result of ethnic and chieftaincy related issues; low investment in economic stimulation activities, low level of education , absence of the right to social amenities , abuse of the right of certain category of persons as a result of the wrongful application and interpretation of cultural practices and religion have led to both voluntary and forced migration of people in the other parts of the regions to move in search of greener pastures in other regions.
Zongo communities are among the most highly deprived communities in the country and prior to the 2016 elections, the NPP made a promise to address the problem with education, as well as look for a vehicle that will prioritize development in Zongos so as to move away from the rice and sugar type of development.
It is in view of this, that, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led NPP government set the Miinistry of Zongo and Inner City Development as one of its flagship initiative to reverse this trend of people traveling to the other regions for greener pastures.
President Akufo-Addo’s vision for Zongo communities as encapsulated in the Coordinated Programme for Economic and Social Development Policies (2017-2024), is to support the provision of critical infrastructure in education and training, health and sanitation, local businesses and centres of culture, as well as improve security.
Due to this vision, The President, upon assuming power created the Ministry of Zongo and Inner City and The Zongo Development Board to directly oversee the implementation of His(H.E Akufo-Addo) vision.
