The Volta Regional Muslim community has introduced a new Chief Imam to the Ghana Journalist Association. The introduction followed a call made to the Acting Chief Imam, Volta, to refrain from parading as a substantive Imam.
At a press briefing to introduce the Legitimate Imam, the Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Muniru Ali Mohammed said it was the mandate to oversee the spiritual aspect of the community and to teach the Qu’oran understandably to the people.
He explained that it was the duty of the call of every Imam to his community adding that the Muslim community will always partner with the Christians to ensure that there are peace, unity, and togetherness.
He also said, education of the citizens in and around the community was very important, thus, much focus would be given to ensure that every single person is enrolled in school.
“We are concerned about the education of the people, and so, we will collaborate with the circuit Zongo to bring development to the people by first of all making their education our priority”…he said.
Yushaw Bashiru Turawah, who introduced the Imam, advised Muslims not to be misled that the Acting Chief Imam who parades himself as an Imam, was the substantive Imam.
He explained that the matter was before a judge and it is awaiting judgment and however cautioned the media to be careful so that the issue can be addressed amicably.
President of the GJA Volta, Mr. Kafui Kanyi noted that it was very important for the media to work judiciously and carefully without having problems.
He advised the media to also be circumspect to ensure there is sanity in their reportage.
