The National Sports Authority (NSA) have released a statement dated 23rd September 2020 to clarify that only heads of contact sports federations were invited to Tuesday’s 22nd September 2020 meeting at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The meeting was held to discuss the return of contact sports to the country following President Nana Akufo-Addo’s announcement on Sunday 20th September 2020. Director General of the NSA Prof. Peter Twumasi spoke to the press following the meeting expressing his joy to see sports return to the country
“We are happy that the President has indicated that now all contact sports can come back not only for training but also to have competitions, that means that our athletes and players can now get themselves prepared for league, for tournaments and maybe international assignments.”
“We met here all the federation heads to come and present to government their programmes for the rest of the year and then also beyond. They have also made some requests, some support for them to be able to come back and organise their competitions.” The NSA chief continued
“Government has listened to them and I am going to brief my minister [Minister of Youth and Sports] and eventually fowarded to the President for consideration on some of the recommendations or some of the requests that they have made.” He concluded
I will be recalled that that non-contact sports federations in the country had already resumed their training programmes hence their absence from the meeting.
