One Household One Fruit Tree launched

 

A One household one fruit initiative has been launched in Ho to address climate change.

The initiative is also to support food nutrition as well as beautify the environment.

Launched by the District Chief Executive of the Ho West District Assembly, Mr. Ernest Apau, announced that the assembly had distributed 20,000 Afram tree seedlings to various communities along the banks of the 32 water bodies in the area.

He said the tree planting exercise had covered the banks of 26 rivers and streams.

He said in addition, the assembly would distribute 100,000 cashew seedlings to registered farmers within the district.

The programme which coincided with the handing over of more than 2,500 coconut seedlings and 1,500 citrus seedlings to the district’s Directorate of Agriculture, will be distributed to 200 farmers in the district.

Mr. Apau mentioned that a One Electoral are One Nursery initiative would also commence in all 25 electoral areas come August this year to provide farmers with the necessary resources as well as easy access to seedlings.

He again mentioned that mahogany, cocoa, coffee, citrus and cashew seedlings to be produced at the nurseries in large quantities.

Mr. Apau noted that the assembly would ensure that agriculture becomes attractive to the youth, and this he said would reduce unemployment.

Receiving the seedlings, District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Seth Asuo said the directorate will support and build a sound environment for the future generations.
