Fulham have booked an immediate return to the English Premier League (EPL) after suffering relegation back in the 2018/2019 season thanks to left-back Joe Bryan who struck twice in extra-time to see them past Brentford 2-1 in yesterday’s Championship play-off final.
Bryan scored a 105th-minute free-kick at Wembley on last night to give his side the lead. The left-back then added another in the dying minutes to seal his side’s spot back in the Premier League after just a season away.
Bryan spoke after the game praising his manager Scott Parker’s decision “[Parker told me to] whip it in the near post, the goalkeeper comes ridiculously far off his line. That’s what we’ve practised this week. [The eyes] are from my dad. We used to practice in the field and he’d give me the eyes when I had to go in goal.”
Paker also spoke on the victory saying “I feel emotional. The journey you go on, the ups and downs, along the way the disappointment, I’m the face who fronts up but behind the scenes is a support network of people that keep you going in those times and those moments.”
Former Fulham defender John Paintsil has congratulated the team on their return to the English top-flight taking to social media to praise the work than by Fulham boss Scott Parker and the club management. “Good Job Weldon….We are Back to stay @fulhamfc congratulations to the playing body and of course the leading train Scott Parker and Management.”
“Congratulations to everyone @fulhamfc for gaining promotion back to premier league. What a brilliant job from Scott Parker the moving train.”
Paintsil played for Fulham between 2008-2011 making 75 league appearances.
