According to reports Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Partey, is said to be looking for a salary of £200,000 a week if he is to join English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid this summer.
This comes from The Athletic’s David Ornstein who revealed that the Ghana international is after a yearly salary worth £10.4m to complete a move to The Emirates an amount that would see him become one of the highest earners at the club.
“I don’t think it would be a case of whether he wants to come it’s whether Arsenal can strike the deal. It is very simple from Atlético Madrid’s perspective he’s got a €50m release clause if Arsenal or anybody else pays it then it is up to him [Partey] what he wants to do.”
“And Thomas Partey will command a very high salary, I am told in excess of £200,000-a-week. So, they [Arsenal] will hope to get that deal done but it is not easy at all.”
Partey is said to be “keen” on a move to North London this summer but the Gunners have so far been unwilling to activate the €50m (£45m) release clause in the 27-year-old’s contract with reports claiming the Arsenal have offered the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi in part exchange for Partey but the La Liga side have insisted that the midfielder will not be sold unless his release clause is met.
Mesut Özil, is the club’s current highest earner on around £350,000-a-week but the club is desperate to get him off the wage bill as he’s deemed surplus to requirements by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and with the Spanish tactician under pressure to balance the books at Arsenal and will have to decide whether they can afford Partey’s £45m asking price and the Ghanian’s wage demands.
Arsenal are currently a club in transition and are looking to clear house with players Mesut Özil, Mattéo Guendouzi, Sead Kolasinac, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all reported to be up for sale.
