Petition to ban Counselor Luterrodt from Radio & TV in Ghana hits 18,000 signatures

Information gathered by Talksafrica.com revealed that, the petition to ban popular yet controversial Counselor Luterrodt from Radio & TV in Ghana hosted on Change.org petition website which facilitates petitions by the general public across the globe has hit over 17,000 signatures. According to source petitioners the aim of the petition is to hit a total of 25000 signatures.

The petition led by Ivy Prosper and 3 others through the Ministry of Communication, to ban Counselor Luterrodt from radio and TV in Ghana is in response to a comment he made on a ADOM TV show which he was quoted to have said “All Victims of rape enjoy the act” to that end, he feels rape victims enjoy the act of being raped adding that, when questioned on his statement he continued to justify his belief that when someone is being raped, the victim enjoys the act.

According to the petitioners, this type of statement to a national audience on television, only promotes rape culture, adding that, George Lutterodt is a ‘rape apologist’ who justifies the aggression of rape and sees no consequences in the act.

The petitioners noted that, women and children are the biggest number of victims suffering from rape and physical abuse on a regular basis, to that ends it’s a shame that media gives a public platform to a person who only serves to give rapists in the community justification for their heinous acts, revealing that, statistic from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service reports that six women are raped every week.

“These numbers only represent the number of women who actually report the cases. There are countless others who suffer in silence because of fear and stigma attached to being a rape victim.” They lamented

They stressed that, this petition is to ask media outlets in Ghana to stop giving George Lutterodt a platform to spread his damaging message to the masses.
