Police Arrests MP aspirant for violating COVID-19 safety protocol and Imposition of Restriction Law

The Central Police Command has effected the arrest of independent aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South Constituency, Joseph Kofi Damte, yesterday Thursday, 09th July 2020 for organizing a political rally without notifying the police and failing to observe safety COVID-19 protocols of face covering and observe social distancing protocol.

According to a Police News-Press released yesterday 09th July 2020, sighted by talksafrics.com, the action of the independent candidate is contrary to the provisions of the Public Order, Criminal and other offences as well as Imposition of Restriction Law.
In the release, the Police Command stated that on 06th July 2020 they received information that the suspect Joseph Damte had organized a political campaign rally at Assin Aworoso in the Assin Constituency.

The police stated that, when they got to the scene, information was gathered from people who were still present and the programme had just ended and the independent candidate had left.

“The Central Regional Police CID has taken over the case for an investigation into the matter.” The further police said.

The police further assured the public that, the suspect is in police custody assisting in the investigation
