According to reports from Diario AS Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu, is close to completing a move from Real Valladolid to English Premier League side Southampton.
Salisu had been in negotiations to sign for Ligue 1 outfit Rennes but it is reported that the player always had a preference for a move to England due to his being comfortable with speaking English than French, the glamour of playing in the Premier League and a superior financial offer with greater stability.
According to Spanish portal AS, the Saints have come forward with a better contract offer of €2m-a-year compared with Rennes’ €1.8m-a-year proposal.
The centre-back who is yet to be capped for the Black Stars has his contract at Valladolid running through until 2022 having signed a new deal back in May, but speculation on the rising star’s future this summer has come into question with multiple clubs linked to a deal especially with his Valladolid contract carrying an affordable €10m buyout clause.
Valladolid have already secured the long-term replacement for Salisu having signed defender Javi Sanchez from Real Madrid.
