The National Sports Authority (NSA) have revealed that the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, will cut the sod for the renovations of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium to begin on Friday 4th September 2020.
The authority revealed that the abandoned stadium will finally get a facelift on their official twitter handle saying “Hon Isaac Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports, will cut sod on Friday September 4, 2020 at 10:00 AM for construction work to begin at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium which has been abandoned for nearly 25 years.”
The NSA further revealed that the project forms part of the government’s plan to develop infrastructure across the country saying “This project forms part of the Government’s broader programme on Sports Infrastructure Development across the country. Already, 10 of such stadiums are nearing completion. He will be supported by leadership of National Sports Authority, MBDA, the RCC and the Traditional Area.”
The development is being done by Middle Belt Development Authority who finalized arrangements with the NSA to renovate the over two decades abandoned Nkawkaw Stadium earlier this month.
The first phase of the project will include the renovation of the pitch, the spectator stands, washrooms, changing rooms among other essential areas of the facility which require urgent attention. The second phase will include the construction of a tartan track for athletics and other additional infrastructural edifices.
