Tanzania’s music artist Diamond Platinumz becomes the first sub-Saharan artist to reach one billion You tube views.
The African most popular star was informed by his record producers when they surprised him at his home to celebrate his achievement.
The visit was characterized by wild jubilations, with a surprise cake made with a YouTube logo for the star.
His producers informed him that he was the first sub-Saharan African to get one billion views on his YouTube channel.
Diamond Platinumz has over the years had direct access to audience through the use of YouTube, and with more than 43 per cent of Tanzania’s population of 55 million, they have access to the internet through the use of mobile phones.
The Tanzania’s star competes with Nigerian Afrobeats stars on YouTube such as P Square with 810 million, Davido with 618 million, followed by Flavour with 617, next is Tekno with 574 million followed by Burna Boy and Wizkid with 507 million and 480 million views respectively.
He opened his YouTube channel in 2011, and there have been a wider and larger Swahili-speaking audience to jump on their feet to dance to his love songs.
YouTube is an online TV where new and upcoming artists in Africa thrive to make a name.
