Timo Werner who is set to complete a £54 million move to London giants Chelsea scored in his final game as an RB Leipzig player leaving as the club’s all-time top scorer (overtaking Daniel Frahn).
Werner whose overall tally for the club comes to 95 goals in 159 games scored his 27th and 28th goals of the season (which is the highest total from any German player since Mario Gomez, who also scored 28 times in the 2010/2011 campaign) in a 2-1 victory at Augsburg earlier today.
This sees the 24-year-old forward finish runner up to Robert Lewandowski in the top scorers’ list, with the Bayern Munich striker scoring 34 goals this season.
After securing the lightning-quick forward, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said: “I have certainly followed him for a while just as a talented player before I took this job. He will strengthen us, he is a huge talent who had a fantastic season.”
“I had good conversations with Timo personally. He understands our project and what we want to do as a club. ‘We’re pleased he’s decided to come to us and look forward to him joining next season.” He further said
Werner joins Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech who signed for the Blues back in February as the club looks to close the gap on Premier League champions Liverpool and Manchester City by making full use of the transfer market after making no signings during Lampard’s first season at the helm.
