Voters register: Registration centers witnesses absence of Police personnel in the North

Electoral Commission’s voter registration centers for the ongoing compilation of a new voter’s register in parts of the Northern region have witnessed the absence of police personnel to ensure law and order.

In an interview with Starr News and monitored by talksafrica Political desk, the Northern regional police commander, DCOP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, stated that officers cannot be deployed to all centers but would be available if they are called upon at any center.

The regional police commander expressed satisfaction over security presence in various registration centers in Tamale even though there is no personnel at most centers.

He further declared that contacts have been given to the registration officers (ROs) to contact the police in case of any disturbances. According to DCOP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, breach of COVID-19 protocols by people at the centers is unfit unfortunate and advises that sensitization of the people is necessary and must continue until they realize the importance of observing safety protocols.
