The president of Ghana His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo has said the country has the enabling environment which can be used to assemble vehicles to boost the country’s economy.
President Akufo-Addo made this statement while speaking at the out-dooring of the new automobile feed in Ghana.
He noted that the local industry will be protected despite the birth of the new assembling plant VW automobile services.
“Ghana has the required environment for all investors, the environment is very good for assembling vehicles, the local vehicle producers will be protected even though there is a new automobile assemble in the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of communications at the Energy Ministry Nana Kofi Damoah has stated that Government is not abandoning the local vehicle producers but rather, the president is engaging them in a meeting on how best to boost the local vehicle production industry.
“Currently we are even purchasing local vehicles and this is helping the economy grow, check the police service and see the number of vehicles government has purchased, this should prove that government is committed to growing the economy,” he said
However, former Member of Parliament for Nanton Constituency Murtala Muhammed has said the idea of getting investors to set up industries in Ghana is a good one but the government should have engaged the local producers before setting the new VW to assemble plant.
“in as much as it is something that is welcoming it is also important for us to look at the concerns expressed by the local producers like Kantanka and several million who are directly involved in it and are dependent of those who are involved in it” he said
