A sod has been cut for the construction of a 30-bed new maternity ward for the SDA hospital at Wiamoase in the Sekyere South Assembly of the Ashanti Region.
The maternity ward which costs GHS1 million will have a records room, a matron’s office, Theatre, intensive care unit, consulting rooms, a blood bank, and a reception.
At a joint sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of work by the District Chief Executive for Sekyere South Assembly, Catherine Reckling and Member of Parliament for the area, Mavis Nkansah Boadu, said the the facility is to augment the old ward which is currently overwhelmed by the increasing numbers from the district.
For his part, District Director of Health, Robert Mensah commended the SDA church for its contribution to health and education sectors.
He urged the private sectors to do more by partnering with government to provide quality healthcare for the people.
He added that government’s contribution to provide health facilities to the rural communities deserves commendation.
Currently, 2,000 patients visit the hospital every month, out of which 160 are women.
Also, the SDA hospital oversees 60 deliveries every month.
